My fixation on this color blue appears to have actually started about 20 years ago. I say "appears," because sometimes I don't notice my own tendencies. Only after time has passed, and a pattern emerges, do I realize something's been a "thing."
I can still remember where I was the moment I laid eyes on this pair... My mom and I were out hitting garage sales one Saturday morning, when these beauties called to me from amid a cluttered table at my most favorite kind of sale; my beloved "Old Lady" sale. Gosh, older folks sure do let go of some amazing things. (It's actually a goal of mine to posthumously host the most AMAZING estate sale when I kick it. You guys will want to be there, believe me.)
Anyway, back to these. I almost lost it when I picked them up and the little tape tag on the bottom said "$2." I snatched them up and they have been favorites of mine ever since.
That is clearly not a staged photo. Your take-aways from this photo are these:
1) The brilliant blue color of these cute Murano Glass vases
2) My advice to you: Only buy drip-less candles henceforth and forever more. Messy wax puddles on candlesticks are an avoidable nuisance.
Anyhoo, here are a few other things I have in my favsie Brilliant Blue:
My opaline vase from my favorite estate sale ever:
A rather upsetting volume of colored glass can be collected from various parts of my home. This isn't even all of it. But my blue is representing hard here:
These. These were my "Employee of the Year" gifts from my boss (me) last year. She knows me pretty well and kinda nailed it with these. It turns out they, too are Italian (like my vases) and that makes a lot of sense, since another tendency of mine is toward all things Italian. But that's another post.
And what would a blog post be without some examples of how this BRILLIANT BLUE (I think that will be it's name now.) is used in interiors?
Of course this was on Pinterest with no source to be found. But, the high-contrast of the blue and the Citrine/Chartreuse is all kinds of awesome, if you ask me. (That armoire is a heart-breaker, isn't it!?) My critical side would have recommended a slightly different wall color in this case, but the whole beauty-is-in-the- eye-of-the-beholder definitely applies to all designs. So, go on. Behold.
I recently came across this image in Architectural Digest. Of course the room is a major hit in every way, but that screen popping out in the corner was what caught my eye at first:
You need to click on that photo and take the tour of David Jimenez's apartment. I would buy that place fully furnished if he decided to move. I love it all. The mix. The layers. The palette. All YES.
*head explodes*
*sigh*. What else is there to say!?
