Well, what have we here??? Week three of the ORC? Yep. It's the halfway point and because it's how things go, you'll not be surprised to hear that after last week's charming visit from the stomach flu, we were not out of the woods as far as contagion was concerned. It's like she had a premonition of things to come, because just a few days before Middle Child woke up because she "felt funny," she gave me this for-no-reason-at-all-except-she's-sweet (some of the time) card:
Poor thing. She was "lucky" that she had only one episode and I'm lucky because it involved only the appropriate brown bag contraption that her daddy constructed, and did not involve my skin or my sheets. She, like her Noodle, just wanted me to hang out with her all day and keep her company. So, because the day was lovely and she didn't want to stay in her room, we turned our sunporch into a hospice room and played Wheel of Fortune on her phone...
While she napped, which she eventually wanted to do in her own bed, I got to work digging through my stash of #thriftytreasure dishes so that I could set a pretty table for Sunday dinner... It ended up looking like this, and if you look closely you'll see a clue as to what happened to that dreadful red situation in my dining room...
Adios, "Bloodbath Red" (aptly named during a rant with my instafriend Lesley, who also is not so fond of the color.) I struggled hard with what color to paint this room, and I am SO VERY HAPPY that I didn't pull the trigger until I was sure. Sometimes I crave change and jump the gun a bit on things, but with this house I really want to make some longer-term choices, and this color is my jam. Odd as it is, it is surprisingly neutral! I love it with the hot pink, navy, turquoise, peach and lavender...
I also spent some time futzing with my china cabinet styling... I think it's obvious what my theme here is.
It is durn near impossible to get a good picture of this thing. The reflections, the bowed glass, the wonky lighting... It's not a finished product here - I'm still on the hunt for more pieces to fill out the bottom shelf, but it's getting there...
Back in porch territory, I finished painting the table...
I used Superhubs' air compressor and this bad boy, and had this thing painted in 20 minutes...
I am a bonehead for not using it on the chairs. This thing is a lifesaver for anyone who paints even one piece of furniture with it, much less something with as many nooks and crannies as my furniture has. With the right prep-work and a good, high quality paint, any painting project is going to turn out WAY better than a brush-job with this guy on your side. (I guess this screenshot also tells you what I've been browsing on Amazon!!! HA! Design books are apparently my "thing." The weird spinner thing is my son's. Are your kids begging for them? He's obsessed - I cannot understand what on earth they are for...)
So, there you have it. An "update" that should have had far more progress in it, but doesn't. Maybe THIS week we will stay germ-free. Be sure to check in with the 20 featured bloggers and the other Guest Participants to see what everyone else is up to! I'm hoping they're all reporting barf-free projects!!!
Love that wallcolor! Adios pigsblood!! 😆 Do you know that I still have the Critter Spray gun saved to an Amazon list from 8 years ago when I first saw it on LGN?!?!
